Is a ‘strategic’ leader unique?

Each year LinkedIn publishes a list of the most used terms by its more than 414, 000,000 members. Dictionary.com describes a cliche as a ‘trite, stereotyped expression; a sentence or phrase, usually expressing a popular or common thought or idea, that has lost originality, ingenuity, and impact by long overuse.’ A simpler way to think about a corporate cliche is – it is simply not unique nor is it a competitive advantage for a CEO to be strategic. Rather, it is an expected capability. You should be able to write a strategy if you are a CEO. You should be driven if you are a sales person. And being responsible goes hand in hand with being a grown -up. So think carefully about the words that you use to describe yourself to stand out from others.
