The availability heuristic deals with our preference for relying on available or easily accessed information to make a decision about something. People tend to assess the relative importance of issues by the ease with which they can be retrieved from memory. Frequently mentioned topics populate the mind even as others slip away from awareness. This is the reason that one of the three key ‘C’s of branding is constancy.
To remain top of mind, you need to be constantly and frequently mentioned. Social media gives us the tools to do this. This is why Kim Kardashian is who she is. There are many people that consider her talents limited – they will ask, what is it that she actually does?
What she does is remain constantly in your mind. She is everywhere. She is omnipotent. She is a brand.
Top Tips for Staying Top of Mind:
- Understand the concept of costume and create one for your brand – Steve Jobs’s polo neck, Tom Ford’s black suit, Hilary and her pearls.
- Have a great photo on Linked In – you are 11 times more likely to have your profile viewed if you have a quality photo on Linked In.
- Send Thank You notes – a great way to stay top of mind is to thank people for having you, presenting to you, coming to your event.
