New research from Duke University’s Fuqua School of business shows that a good voice earns you the good income.  A study of 792 male CEOs found that CEOs with deeper voices manage larger companies, make more money and stay in their job longer.
This is not new to us at Brand New You, there are many studies that suggest a good quality voice will have a huge impact.  The 7,38, 55 rule places it as the second most important element to being liked.  How many highly successful politicians have annoying voices?
Paralinguistcs (that’s the 38% we harp on about) looks at how you say the things you say.  This includes your volume, pitch, intensity, clarity and the speed of your speech and how you use silence.
Our Head of Presence, Suzi Dougherty, has three tips to help you sound amazing:
1.  Belly breathe before you speak – she teaches our clients to pant heavily and slowly (don’t get caught in the wrong place doing this!), while holding their diaphragm, or even hum and count to ten.
2. Modulate your voice – vary range and tone, who wants to hear a monotone?
3.  Drop your voice into its optimal pitch – let your voice relax into its optimal pitch by keeping your lips together and make the sounds “um hum, um hum, um hum”
